A Day in the Life at UnionHub: Meet Ailyn Diaz

January 20, 2026

Software Engineer

At UnionHub, many of our engineers have taken unconventional paths into tech — and Ailyn Diaz is a perfect example of how curiosity, persistence, and a love of problem-solving can shape a career. From crane operator to full-stack engineer, Ailyn’s journey is as dynamic as the systems she builds today.

From Wind Turbines to Technology

Ailyn studied at Aims Community College in Greeley, Colorado, where she earned her Associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems. But school was only part of her story.

“While I was in school, I worked full-time as a crane operator at night in the wind turbine industry,” she says. “That job was crazy but a lot of fun — the complete opposite of what I’m doing now!”

Balancing demanding night shifts with coursework required discipline and grit, but it also fueled her drive to explore technology in depth.

“During that time, I dove deep into tech and earned several certifications in areas like frameworks, full-stack development, C#, and cybersecurity. I wanted to explore everything technology had to offer.”

After graduating, Ailyn transitioned into networking roles, helping set up Wi-Fi systems for banks, schools, and businesses, and contributing to the design of new fiber network infrastructure for cities across Colorado. Each step added another layer to her technical foundation.

Life Beyond the Code

Outside of work, Ailyn’s world balances technology with creativity.

“I have my girlfriend, who works in the local art scene and museums,” she shares. “It’s a great balance — she’s creative and artistic, and I’m more technical and analytical, so we balance each other out great, haha.”

Their days are often filled with activity thanks to Saiki, their Australian Cattle Shepherd.

“She keeps us active and busy,” Ailyn says.

That mix of movement, creativity, and curiosity carries through into everything Ailyn does — both professionally and personally.

Building Impact at UnionHub

Today, Ailyn is a Software Engineer at UnionHub, where she focuses on full-stack development, working across both the front and back end of the platform.

“I focus on building and improving our current systems,” she explains. “I get the chance to work on both the front and the back — best of both worlds.”

Much of her current work centers on improving self-access for members, communications, and overall user experience. For Ailyn, the most rewarding part of the job is seeing tangible outcomes.

“I love solving real problems — catching bugs and seeing the direct impact of the tools we create,” she says. “Most times, we see almost right away the impact we make day to day.”

Even outside her official role, Ailyn’s passion for technology doesn’t slow down.

“I enjoy experimenting with technology, modding games, and setting up servers for friends,” she says. “Coding feels like I’m learning to speak the computer’s language — and I love figuring out what’s possible. I never say never, just how — how can we achieve this?”

Pride in Progress and Culture

When asked what she’s most proud of at UnionHub, Ailyn points first to the software — and the speed at which ideas become reality.

“From a software perspective, I’m especially proud of the systems and features we’ve built that speed up processes,” she says. “Seeing ideas turn into real, working tools that people rely on is incredibly rewarding. We talk about something in a meeting, and soon enough we’re making it a reality.”

She’s also proud of the company’s growth and visibility.

“Being featured in articles and gaining recognition shows how far we’ve come and continue to go. It’s amazing to be here right now, growing with the team.”

But what truly sets UnionHub apart for Ailyn is the culture.

“Beyond the technology we make, I’m proud of the culture at UnionHub,” she says. “It’s a place where people genuinely care about doing great work and helping each other succeed.”

That sense of purpose changes how work feels day to day.

“Where I go to work and I don’t feel like this is a ‘job’ — it’s an opportunity to make amazing and cool stuff and collaborate with all of our other amazing engineers. It’s a blast.”

Awards and Recognition

And finally, Ailyn was recognized as the 2025 Cru Team Leader Award Winner with the following explanation:

Our Cru Team Leader Award was presented to Ailyn Diaz. From junior engineer to software engineer, Ailyn has shown incredible growth, consistency, and attention to detail in everything she does. Her energy, thoughtfulness, and care for her work make her a joy to collaborate with, and it comes as no surprise that her teammates nominated and voted her for this award.

Looking Ahead

For Ailyn, UnionHub is a place where growth is constant — in skills, systems, and people. Whether she’s refining user experiences, solving complex bugs, or exploring new technologies, she brings the same mindset she’s had from the beginning: curiosity first, limits later.

At UnionHub, Ailyn Diaz isn’t just building software — she’s helping turn ideas into impact, one line of code at a time.
