As a Technical Project Manager, Chase Canal operates at the intersection of all three. With a background in software engineering and a passion for solving difficult problems, Chase helps guide technical projects while remaining closely involved in how UnionHub’s platform is designed and built.
From Florida to Denver
Chase studied Software Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University, with a minor in Mathematics. Originally from Florida, he eventually decided he was ready for a change of pace and a larger city.
“I’m from Florida originally, but decided that I wanted to live in a larger metropolitan city. After a brief stint in Dallas, I ended up here in Denver.”
Outside of work, Chase spends much of his time with Piper, his Australian Cattle Dog mix. His interests reflect the same blend of technology, exploration, and creativity that he brings to his role.
“In my free time, I’m usually PC gaming, but other hobbies include landscape photography, scuba diving, and traveling.”
Whether he is exploring a virtual world, photographing a new landscape, or diving beneath the surface, Chase enjoys experiences that offer something new to discover.
Bridging Technology and Project Leadership
At UnionHub, Chase’s role goes beyond traditional project management. As a Technical Project Manager, he works closely with engineers to help rearchitect backend systems and expand the capabilities of the platform.
“What’s mostly been on my plate has been rearchitecting backend systems with the team, along with developing further functionality so users are able to solve the everyday problems they face.”
That work is also focused on making the platform more proactive and intelligent: “We want to make the platform more intelligent so it can solve those problems itself.”
Chase’s software engineering background allows him to engage deeply with the technical side of each project. Recently, he has had more opportunities to contribute directly to architectural decisions and design solutions himself.
“I’ve been able to really have a lot of fun creating architecture myself, which I’ve been proud of—being able to flex my programming background while still staying within the TPM space.”
For Chase, that flexibility is one of the most rewarding parts of working at UnionHub: “It’s one of my favorite parts about this job. I’m able to do a lot in my role that I traditionally wouldn’t be able to.”
Building for Scale
One of the projects Chase is most proud of is UnionHub’s implementation of multi-tenancy, an architectural capability that allows the platform to securely support multiple organizations and user groups within the same system.
“I am wildly proud of being part of the team that set up multi-tenancy in the system.”
It was also a project that followed Chase throughout his time at UnionHub.
“It was a project I’ve been part of since day one here at UnionHub, and it felt like a real milestone getting that completed and out the door.”
For Chase, the accomplishment was not only about delivering a major technical initiative. It was also about seeing the contributions of the engineering team recognized. He recalls a company all-hands meeting when a senior engineer received an award for his work on Row Level Security, an important component of the multi-tenant architecture: “He gave me a special shoutout, saying that it wouldn’t have been possible without me.”
That moment continues to stand out as one of Chase’s happiest memories at UnionHub—not because he was the person receiving the award, but because it reflected the role he strives to play on every project.
Guiding UnionHub Through SOC 2
Chase also spearheaded UnionHub’s SOC 2 audit, taking on an area of responsibility he had not initially expected to oversee.
“Compliance was something I was not expecting to take on, and it took a substantial amount of work.”
SOC 2 is an important milestone for technology companies, requiring extensive documentation, testing, coordination, and operational discipline. Despite the complexity of the process, Chase is proud of how the UnionHub team approached the audit and worked together to complete it successfully.
“I am very pleased with how we made it past the finish line in ‘one of the cleanest audits’ that our auditing company, A-LIGN, has had.”
The accomplishment demonstrated more than UnionHub’s commitment to security and compliance. It also reflected the team’s ability to navigate unfamiliar challenges, establish strong internal processes, and deliver results together.

Helping Others Succeed
For Chase, technical project management is not simply about timelines, meetings, or task lists. It is about creating the conditions that allow engineers and teams to do their best work.
“To me, that’s what a project manager is all about: helping the other engineers succeed and keeping the team aligned.”
That alignment makes it possible for the team to move beyond simply completing projects.
“We are able to create meaningful, impactful, and intelligently designed software.”
It is a philosophy that shapes how Chase approaches everything from backend architecture to compliance initiatives. His role may involve coordinating complex projects, but the ultimate goal is always the same: help talented people work together to build technology that makes a meaningful difference.
Looking Ahead
As UnionHub continues to grow, Chase remains focused on strengthening the technical foundation beneath the platform while helping teams turn ambitious ideas into practical solutions. His combination of engineering knowledge and project leadership allows him to see both the details of how a system works and the broader picture of why the work matters.
Whether he is designing architecture, guiding a major initiative, or helping another engineer succeed, Chase brings a collaborative approach to every challenge. And for him, that is what great technical project management looks like: keeping people aligned, removing barriers, and helping the entire team reach the finish line together.
